Our Models Know How To Change! |
The
Aware Technology Patent "Polymorhpic Enhanced Modeling" The new paradigm, "permutation
enabled, polymorphic modeling." The Aware technology is based upon a software Patent for "Polymorphic Enhanced Modeling" number 6,292,810 B1. Software developers can license the Aware technology for use in modeling applications ranging from spreadsheets to Internet based distributed models. The technology consists of a set of data structures and algorithms that developers can link to controls, such as menu commands and toolbar speedbuttons. These controls then enable user selectable and context-sensitive enhanced modeling capabilities that you embed within older, more limited modeling technologies for more aware and intelligent operations. These operations facilitate the permutation of a model from an initial, user-defined form, to other alternate forms. Since knowledge is power, the immediate and automatic accessibility of alternate models increases the analytical power of your models. Thus, these capabilities deliver a new paradigm in modeling, i.e., permutation enabled, polymorphic enhanced models. The new, more powerful models benefit users in ways previously unknown and represent a fertile advancement in analytical options. You can view these data structures, algorithms and controls in combination as a sophisticated computational engine that you embed within traditional applications to enhance their capabilities and improve their operations. Performance benefits include less source code, faster model development, and more powerful analytical capabilities delivering both sophistication with ease for the user of the application. In order to showcase this technology we have developed two software products, 1st Financials and the Aware Spreadsheet. You can download trial versions of each of our products in order to become familiar with the operation of the Aware technology. The technology is embeded within the graphics oriented 1st Financials modeling product and also into the Aware spreadsheet. Other applications of the technology abound. We coined the term "Aware" to help users and developers understand the difference between our Patented technology and older less aware technologies such as traditional spreadsheets, financial modeling applications, and mathmatical modeling applications. The Aware technology delivers a new level of intelligence that is automatically active and available to benefit users. However, it is not really a form of artificial intelligence (AI). The field of artificial intelligence is somewhat beyond comprehension for most of us. AI's promise has also fallen short of expectations. Its complexity seems to be a bit beyond the reach our our current technology as well. But in contrast to artificial intelligence, the Aware technology does live up to the promise of more intelligent software capabilities and is well within the reach of our current technology. Our two showcase products demonstrate both the intelligence and the implementation. They also demonstrate permutation enhanced, polymorphic modeling, in an easy to understand form. A polymorphic model is simply a model that can change forms. The model changing forms is, in-and- of-itself, a significant advancement. In addition, there are other more detailed aspects of the implementation which expand the possiblities into a new art form for permutation enabled modeling. In 1st Financials the technology is so seemlessly integrated that it is almost invisible. In the Aware spreadsheet the technology is most appearant in the form of a unique set of toolbar speedbuttons and menu commands. You use these controls to define the spreadsheet model's permutation processes. Specifically, the controls support a suite of polymorphic modeling behaviors. These behaviors provide automatic model permutations so that a single user defined spreadsheet model can change from its original form into another alternate form before it calculates a final result. When might this be useful? When you want to enter a value on a formula cell. Today, in the market leader spreadsheet, Microsoft Excel, a value entered into a formula cell will erase the formula, break the model, change the cell from a formula cell into an input cell, and then store the value. In contrast, the Aware Spreadsheet will preserve the formula, permutate the model into a new form, accept and store the input value, and calculate the new model results. Imagine a simple financial model in which you calculate return-on-investment. What happens when you want to enter ROI and solve for assets. Without the Aware technology, you cannot. Excel is not aware that other alternatives exist. In summary, the Aware Technology knows that alternative model forms exist. It knows how to automatically access, use, and calculate those alternate models, so that you can enter a value into any cell or node in your model and get a valid calculated result. It also provides you with a set of controls over the model permutation process so that you can specify how the permutation process should proceed so that you have choices and controls that target the kinds of results and analysis that you want. Because it knows that you want to get the most out of the original model, and it knows how to deliver those results, we called the technology "Aware." We know that there is more to this subject of polymorphic modeling than we can explain in this short overview document. In fact, with any new technology and particularly with a new paradigm technology there is a real need for education to explain and differentiate the technology and demonstrate its benefits. We trust that we have given you enough information so far that you will want to further explore our website and download and use our showcase products. In a very short time, you will become aware of the new options that are now available to you in your modeling applications which result from this new, Patented Aware technology. |
